We stand with you, Brigitte Bardot!

A French court has convicted Brigitte Bardot of inciting racial hatred for her statements about Muslims and Islam [Brigitte Bardot guilty in racial hatred case, Associated Press, June 3, 2008].

In April I wrote (on our old blog) about Bardot and her open letter to French President Sarkozy, which formed the basis of the case against her. Bardot was fined a large sum of money as a result of the conviction, but it appears that she does not face any jail time, as was originally predicted.

The French police and courts have their hands full anyway, what with car burnings (an average of 112 per night in 2006) and other violence in the suburbs around Paris, which seems to be a common occurrence in the new multicultural, multiracial France.
